Someone asked me what’s the best movement to increase their overall fitness level. I responded with “the vertical jump”. When I was writing a column for a sports magazine the editor asked me what the best movement was for athletic performance. I said “the vertical jump”.

What nutritional supplements do you usually use when you’re in some sort of pain? When a joint hurts or when you’ve just worked out too much, what supplements do you look to? The popular answer is “none” followed up by “some sort of NSAIDS”. NSAIDS are anti-inflammatory pills such as Advil. Not surprisingly, the one response I  almost never hear is “enzymes”.

In the never ending quest to find nutritional supplements to give us the edge and increase our muscle mass and reduce our body fat, we’re often led astray by major supplement companies. Old supplements are brought out as “new” every few years and there’s a lot of mass confusion. The funny thing about this quest is that the answer has already been discovered.

The immortals workout has gotten the same type of excitement and buzz around it as the 30 workout did years ago when that movie was released. Unlike 300, however, the actors in Immortals aren’t going to be as CGI influenced as the actors in 300 were.

First Look:Captain America Super Solider

by JimmySmith on June 15, 2011 · 0 comments · Follow Jimmy on

Captain America Super Solider is set to hit the stores in late July in order to further promote the Captain America First Avenger movie staring Chris Evans. What were my first impressions of the video game after seeing a demo?

40557 captain america super soldier1 First Look:Captain America Super Solider-The game fills in Steve Rogers’ early days as Captain America. I like that since the movie will skip over it.

-Everything looks the same. It seemed that you went from dark brown wall in a underground facility to another place that looked the same fighting people that looked the same.

-Combat in Captain America boils down to punches, kicks, and shield moves. You can throw the shield and direct it, pull off finishing knockout moves, and so on, but most of the time you’re just ping ponging between enemies and laying them out.

-The fact that the environments and action look so similar is a huge letdown, but it doesn’t help that the game still feels like a run of the mill third-person adventure.

The result?

I’m not too high on it right now but Sega will probably show a little more which will get me amped up for it.

Carbohydrate Back Loading-Much To Do About Nothing

by JimmySmith on May 28, 2011 · 2 comments · Follow Jimmy on

Note: I’m 6’6 and a natural athlete, there are some people that want to consider themselves “hardcore” that won’t accept any valid science if it doesn’t come from someone who’s 300 pounds and ripped. Sorry. If you want a valid scientific article then please continue to read and learn. I’m also more then happy to talk to people that want to say I’m wrong for having my theories. Please leave a comment below.

The idea was simple really. Eat the majority of your carbohydrates, including some unhealthy foods like donuts, at the end of the day after you’ve trained late at night and your chances of gaining muscle, preserving strength and losing fat will be increased.
The idea was termed “back loading”.
