I was browsing the internet yesterday and saw a article on Yahoo about the healthiest fast food restaurants. The top choice surprised me.
They might as well picked Burger King for the top spot. That was my initial reaction.
They pick Panera Bread at the healthiest fast food option! What!
This is the furtherest from the truth. I did a quick search on Panera breads nutrition calculator and put in a random sandwich. The Asiago Roast Beef sandwich had 27 grams of fat, 1270 mg’s of sodium, 64 grams of carbs!
Yet the writer for health.com pointed out how Panera uses natural peanut butter for their children’s peanut butter and jelly sandwich and they use organic cheese for their grilled cheese sandwichs. REALLY?
Organic doesn’t mean healthy food, not by any means. A recent study looked at Americas perception of what of organic food and weight loss. Here’s what they summed up.
The researchers showed more than 100 study participants nutrition information for a regular Oreo cookie and for one that was made with organic flour and sugar. The nutritional label clearly showed a serving size (two cookies) of 160 calories for both Oreos. Nevertheless, 38 percent of the participants thought that the organic cookie had fewer calories than competing brands, whereas only 12 percent did so without the organic claim.
“Presumably, participants inferred that if organic cookies contain 160 calories, then the calorie content of conventional cookies—whatever the precise amount—is likely to be higher,” said Schwarz, who also is a professor of psychology and research professor at U-M’s Institute for Social Research. “In addition, participants considered it appropriate to consume Oreo cookies more frequently when they were organic than when they were not.”
