The immortals workout has gotten the same type of excitement and buzz around it as the 30 workout did years ago when that movie was released. Unlike 300, however, the actors in Immortals aren’t going to be as CGI influenced as the actors in 300 were.
So what exactly was the Immortals workout? Well to be honest, not too much as been released about it. But what could it have been?
Here’s the thing with any actors or actresses workout in general, the exercises follow traditional fitness program design. There’s nothing new or special within the workout itself that will deliver drastic physique changes that other types of workouts won’t.
The key here being that with Immortals the focus was on fat burning. There’s only so much muscle a actor wants to add naturally.
So what could you add to a workout to make it specifically target fat loss? Aside from the diet you’d want to follow some simple rules.
All exercises must be metabolically challenging
This differs from the usual recommendations of doing multi-joint movements. No one, even a dedicated actor, is going to just go to the gym and do bench presses and squats. That’s boring.
For the most part, they’ll use a circuit consisting of both traditional movements like dips and lunges and “odd object” training which is popular these days like kettlebell swings, tire flips, battle ropes and various short of movements.
I have to admit, this type of training is fun and keeps the workouts from being repetitive.
Does this type of training burn fat more then a traditional type of bodybuilding workout? Yes! Simple because it adds extra metabolically challenging movements to the training session.
Compare a traditional workout to get bigger arms with a workout that the actors of Immortals more then likely used.
Standing barbell curls:3 sets of 8 reps
Incline Triceps Extensions: 3 sets of 8 reps
Seated Incline Dumbbell Curls: 3 sets of 12 reps
Dips: 3 sets of max reps
Now add in the type of workout that was probably used for the Immortals actors
Kettlebell swings: 30 second round
Bodyweight Dips: 3 sets x max reps
Battle Ropes: 30 second round
Standing Dumbbell Curls: 3 sets of 12 reps
Medicine Ball Throw: 30 second rounds.
See the difference? The 2nd workout is so much more metabolically active so it burns more fat. The movements don’t matter as much in the Immortals workout if the principles were right. Take that lesson and run with it.
