With all of the different diet and nutrition methods floating around in books and magazines and online, it’s easy for one to get confused about just what diet they should use and it’s understandable that most people want to “just diet”. The one thing that none of these diets take into account is the individual. Now I understand that no one can personalize a diet unless they work with you one on one so all of those authors that scream “personalize the diet to the person” need to stop stressing their vocal cords. It’s just impossible. Sadly though, most people jump right into a diet for results but jump over the start-up phase, which could potentially provide the biggest gains.
The start up diet phase
So what exactly is the start-up diet phase? Well let’s look at it this way. Do you really think it’s the best option for your body to go from eating junk, sugar, bad fat and high carbs to high protein, moderate fat and ultra low carbs? You’ll love it for about 1 week then the hunger will happen and you’ll plateau. Don’t you think you need a “between” period?
What does a in-between period mean?
Well the first in-between phase focuses on eliminating all of the bad stuff such as high fructose corn-syrup, alcohol, caffeine(for now), trans-fats and high sugar laden products. Why? Because most people, with the exception of the hardcore bodybuilding type, just can’t go from bad to great in their diet. Eliminating those few products and what they are contained in should result in both a few pound decrease as well as a a overall better mood increase.
Focus on keeping those products out of your body for 4 weeks.
Starting A Diet The Right Way Part 2
While it’s not a detox per say, it does mimic one. You should also eliminate the foods that our body just can’t process such as gluten and diary and soy. Now most people reading this don’t consume soy on a regular basis and you shouldn’t, even if you can’t consume dairy since our body can’t efficiently break down the amino acids in soy and it isn’t a complete profile anyway.
Most hardcore bodybuilding fans will tell you that they really only eat yams, brown rice and oatmeal as a part of their carbohydrate intake. Well brown rice and yams naturally don’t contain gluten, so you’re good there. Just go to a Whole Foods and grab some gluten free oatmeal. What else should you eat? Well these veggies can really help to clean out the liver and purify the body so focus on….
- Brussels Sprouts
In no specific order, those four veggies work wonders on the body. So there you have it, once you follow those two phases for at least 6-8 weeks depending on how you feel THEN jump into whatever diet you like. Try it once, what do you have to lose, except a few extra pounds of fat right?
