I’m not going to claim to known exactly what type of forearm workout he did but I will tell you that it’s paying off. Forearms are unlike any other muscle. They don’t hide in the winter or summer and can draw some serious attention to your physique since most people have skinny and puny forearms.

He’s almost certainly get a good workout from his back workout. Anything that forces you to grip and pull heavy weight will be a great forearm workout.
Hammer curls are more than likely his top choices as everyone loves arm day.
Another option, yet I doubt he did them, is reverse curls. These have the ability to really stress hard to hit forearm muscles and make them pop.
