Why is aspartame so bad? I mean for the last 5 years or so we’ve continually heard that we should avoid it like the plague. Really?
There are those in the fitness community, who for whatever reason, actually advise the use of aspartame and claim that their are no studies to support how dangerous it really is.
Let’s break it down, shall we?
Aspartame made up of about 40% Aspartic Acid
Known as an excitotoxin because of how it “excites” the central nervous system. Too much Aspartic Acid ingestion has been linked to various serious health issues. As a matter of fact, a book by Dr. Russell Blaylock has proven how dangerous it really can be with over 500 references (1). So why haven’t more people died from Aspartame. For starters, you need a large amount of it to have negative effects. Here’s what happens though with just a little aspartame.
As you consume Aspartame neural cells begin to die off. You’ll need to kill a large portion (75% or more) of these cells to experience any effect, such as hormonal problems, ALS, memory loss or seizures.
And while Aspartame is made up of various other chemicals, you must be aware of Aspartic Acid as it is found in many common and popular bodybuilding diet drinks, including diet soda. While the calories and sugar aren’t there, something even more deadly is.
