Common allergies that give you watery eyes, make your nose run and make you sneeze for days may be the next big link to heart disease.
While the researchers clearly state that the findings of one large study don’t 100% prove the connection between allergies and the number one killer in the world, heart disease.
Dr. Jongoh Kim of Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and colleagues analyzed data on more than 8,600 adults aged 20 or older who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted between 1988 and 1994.
They found that common allergies and heart disease were matched together more then they were not.
Eighteen percent of the adults reported wheezing and 46 percent suffered bouts of a stuffy nose or itchy and watery eyes — a combination of allergic symptoms known as rhinoconjunctivitis.
Heart disease was present in 6 percent of the adults overall. It was found in 13 percent of wheezing cases, 5 percent of rhinoconjunctivitis cases and 4 percent of people without any allergic symptoms.
After adjusting for other related factors, such as age and asthma, there was a 2.6-fold increased risk of heart disease with wheezing and a 40 percent increased risk with rhinoconjunctivitis, compared to no allergies. The association was mainly seen in women younger than age of 50.
Kim suggested that intermittent inflammation that comes with the allergies leads to hardening and thickening of the artery wall which, in time, leads to increased risks of heart disease.
So how can someone with allergies decrease their allergy symptoms and reduce their risk of heart disease?
Allergies are typically a culprit of low stomach acid which increases the severity of the allergies.
Betaine HCL increases your natural stomach acid, which is low in most people due to stress and improper diets.
Low magnesium levels are often linked reduced stomach acid. I suggest a magnesium glycinate or magnesium gel.
Omega-3 fish oil is vital for reducing whole body inflammation as are various enzymes.
Of course, you can reduce inflammation through an anti-inflammation diet as well.
