You know, every few months a fitness magazine for guys will come out talking some jive about how arms, chest, and shoulders and abs are the most “wanted” bodyparts on guys based on some female survey. Well I’ve surveyed my twitter page (follow me for some fitness and diet updates that don’t make it on this site) and a surprising number (out of 46,815) females came back and said they wish their guys would do a glute workout every now and then.
Women like tight butts right? Guys need to do more glute workouts in order to get the job done.
That’s Erin Stern by the way, we’ve interviewed her before. Women like to grab guys butts so at least we can try to keep it tight right?
Squats And Deadlifts Oh My
Yes, they have been and always will be the king of lower body movement but there’s only so much they can do. We need to get out of the idea that they’ll fix every lower body issue. We’ll train around them but we’ll need to add more work in.
Without getting into the nitty gritty of the small stuff. Here’s an old youtube video that I did about 2 years ago with a few warmup glute exercises
So you have your bridges, clams and straight leg raises in the video. You must, must, MUST get used to doing this hip flexor stretch. A direct antagonist to the glutes, if this hip muscle is tight, you’ll not only have back pain but you’ll never get a tight butt. Do this stretch
Then you want to hammer this workout out in order
Band Side Steps-2 sets of 20 reps
Stiff Leg Deadlift-4 sets of 8 reps
Sumo Deadlift-3 sets of 12 reps
Steps-ups-3 sets of 12 reps each leg
Rest 45-60 seconds between each set
